Spring Pond Start-up
A proper spring start-up sets the stage for clean water and a thriving ecosystem all season long. Restarting your aeration system correctly and adding beneficial bacteria are the key steps.
Step 1: Inspect Your Compressor
Before restarting your system, check your compressor for damage, wear, or debris that may have accumulated over the winter. A clean, well‑maintained compressor ensures optimal airflow and reliable operation.
Step 2: Prioritize Electrical Safety
Always plug your pump or compressor into a GFCI outlet, and make sure all cords are dry and in good condition.
Safe electrical connections are essential when working around water.

Step 3: Check and Clean Your Filters
Clean or replace filters to maintain strong airflow and healthy oxygen levels.
- Clean the air filter with mild soap and water
- Replace the air filter when bubble activity decreases

Step 4: Observe Your Aeration System
Once running, ensure each diffuser shows normal bubble flow. Proper aeration distributes oxygen and nutrients evenly crucial for a balanced ecosystem.
If bubbles seem weak or uneven, consider using Eco-Purge to remove internal film or debris that may be restricting airflow.
Step 5: Add Beneficial Bacteria

- Apply Bacterius® Equinox when water temperature is below 10°C (50°F)
- Switch to Bacterius® POND once the water warms above 10°C (50°F), according to your pond’s needs
Beneficial bacteria help:
- Reduce ammonia, nitrite, and organic waste
- Improve water clarity
- Support a healthy, resilient eco-system
A strong spring restart now means fewer problems this summer.
